JONAS HÖDICKE
JONAS HÖDICKE
Jonas Hödicke born 1984 in Berlin, is a German sculptor and painter who lives and works in Berlin and Ireland. From 2007 to 2014, he studied sculpture at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under Markus Lüpertz and Siegfried Anzinger. As the son of the influential Berlin painter Karl Horst Hödicke, he grew up in an environment deeply shaped by art. Nevertheless, he developed a distinctive artistic language of his own. His early work focused primarily on sculptures and dynamic figures made of wire and bronze, exploring movement, tension, and the process of creation itself. In his painting, Hödicke combines abstraction and figuration, engaging intensely with movement, people, and urban situations. Berlin is not merely a backdrop but a recurring element within his visual world: street scenes, nocturnal imagery, everyday objects, and characteristic moments of city life become recurring motifs. His work often moves between dark, apocalyptic scenarios and expressive, immediate bursts of colour. A defining aspect of his practice is his interest in what is in motion or in a state of transformation. Hödicke describes his artistic approach as a search for “movement – in the city, in people, in the moment.” (deeds.news) Among his notable Berlin exhibitions are “ENDZEITLIEBE” at Kurfürstendamm (2023), “Erinnere Dich an die Zukunft” at Löwenpalais (2025), and “Fremd in der Stadt” at the Samurai Museum Berlin (2025).
